This season, we are delighted to introduce new artists into our programme. Triple Bill is a new concept introduced to our programme this season which gives you the opportunity to experience three different emerging artists throughout the evening including Chandenie Gobardhan, Brooke Milliner and Ekleido.
CREATOR | CHANDENIE GOBARDHAN
Creator is a work driven by Trimurti’s phase of creation. All things in our universe are continuously going through the stages of creation. Considering the constant dance of countless vibrations with every atom that exists, the shifts through the cycle can be happening on an extremely subtle level.
The most intricate movements can impact relationships of space in and around us. Taking the agency in considering our thoughts, words and actions will allow us to create a world we want to live in.
Ultimately, we are all creators.
“Strong on subtlety and symbolism, CREATOR left me wanting more.” – Graham Watts, Dance Writer
Audience Warning: contains loud music.
PSYCHE | BROOKE MILLINER
When Time Was New, a hip hop dance theatre company by Brooke Milliner, presents PSYCHE.
You are what you repeatedly do. Can you break the cycle? As patterns of behaviour are uncovered and circumstances force their hand, two characters must make tough choices and confront who they see looking back in their reflection.
Poignant and uplifting, Brooke Milliner’s latest work tackles the unspoken challenges of the male psyche. Bringing together some of the UK’s most exciting Hip Hop artists, PSYCHE is a gripping piece of dance theatre that questions social convention – stripping back human behaviour to reveal the cost of ego.
PSYCHE was originally commissioned by The Place with support from Breakin’ Convention and Arts Council England.
SPLICE | EKLEIDO
Known for their work in the contemporary dance and underground club dance scenes, Hannah Ekholm and Faye Stoeser, known as creative duo Ekleido, present their critically acclaimed work SPLICE in which two dancers explore the balance between limitation and possibility to solve a physical puzzle.
SPLICE features a new original score by world-renowned electronic musician Floating Points fresh from his critically acclaimed work with San Francisco Ballet earlier this year.
“This was honestly one of my favourite performances I’ve ever seen – it was so good.” – audience member
Supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England. Supported by DanceEast, The Place, Lab 13, Richard Chappell Dance CIC, and Create Destroy Studios.
Audience Warning: contains haze and strobe lighting.
POST SHOW DJ SET
We are excited to be hosting local DJ Mac @ Tiny Decks at the DanceHouse, who will be spinning vinyl records after the show in the foyer, so you can carry on enjoying your evening with us after the show.
“I play proper little turntables, I play real 7” vinyl records. I am probably what you’d call a ‘dj purest’ – so I only use 7” records and absolutely no software is used to mix my sets. I mix and blend mostly obscure disco and dance tracks.”
