As the weather turns colder and a new season is upon us, you might be looking for activities to keep children and young people entertained during the shorter days ahead. We have plenty of opportunities to keep them curious and inspired, from performances to workshops, plus our regular weekly classes. Read on to find out more…

In just three weeks, DeNada Dance Theatre brings a taste of Spain to Ipswich with their family show The Bull and the Moon on Saturday 12 October, an endearing family-friendly production that celebrates anyone who dances to their own tune. Blending contemporary, flamenco and physical theatre, this is a heart-warming story about the importance of finding oneself and the beauty of gender diversity. Plus, families are invited to join us in the foyer before the performance for arts and crafts, as well as after the performance for a short on-stage flamenco workshop. Get your castanets at the ready!

Although we are still experiencing some warm sunny days, it’s not too early to think ahead to December. Our festive show this year is one for everyone in the family to enjoy (including babes in arms!). Protein Dance’s The Little Prince originally premiered here back in 2018 and is back for 2024. Don’t miss this enchanting production for both children and adults, based on the namesake book by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry.

It may feel like the summer holidays have only just finished, but it isn’t too early to start thinking ahead to October Half Term. Why not get ahead and book your young person on one of our great workshops!

Our popular Once Upon a Dance is back on Friday 1 November for young people aged 4-11 and this time we’re partnering with Britten Pears Arts to provide an exciting, fun-filled day of moving, music-making, song writing and creativity! We welcome everyone to join us – you don’t need to have any dance experience.

Do you know a boy who loves to dance? Invite them to Project B: in partnership with the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) on Friday 1 November, a creative, high-energy day of workshops designed to build your coordination, strength, and alignment, led by experienced male teachers and live musical accompaniment. This is a chance for young boys to explore an immersive day of dance involving energetic contemporary dance, athletic ballet, and upbeat Hip Hop workshops. If they’re unsure about attending by themselves, we have a 50% off offer if they bring a friend – check out our website for more information.

Know a young person who loves moving and coding? Move and Code on Saturday 2 November is a one-day workshop led by digital dance choreographer Rebecca Evans and computing specialist Su Adams. A full day that will get you moving, coding, and creating an interactive performance. You will be introduced to innovative ways to combine dance and technology, building skills in creative thinking, collaboration, choreography, and programming.

DanceEast’s Youth Festival returns this autumn on Saturday 9 November! Produced by young people for young people, YouthFest puts our local community of 14-25 year olds first, in a joyful celebration of dance. Prepare for a Jerwood DanceHouse takeover with tons of FREE activity including workshops, performances, arts and crafts.

On Sunday 10 November, we are delighted to be hosting an autumn-themed Baby Loves to Boogie, a fun workshop all about connecting with your little one, moving, and having fun. You will be guided through games with props and movement exercises, all developed to nurture your little one’s natural love of movement in a structured yet relaxed environment.

Plus, we offer a range of weekly classes for children and young people which provides space to get creative, energised and make friends. Our Dance for Tots classes, for ages 1-4, develop balance, coordination, and imagination. Our Creative Dance classes inspire children aged 4-11 to use their imagination to boost their dance skills, while Youth Contemporary is a fun, exciting hour of high energy dance for ages 11-16, designed to improve their contemporary technique, and develop choreographic skills. Or if you fancy learning some new tricks, try our Hip Hop Dance class for 9-16 years. Discover our full programme here.

We hope to see you and your family here at the DanceHouse this autumn! If you have any questions or want any further information on any of our performances, contact our Box Office team on 01473 295230.
